Renowned international leaders will take the stage on October 24th and 25th for the 9th edition of the Estoril Conferences. Daniel Solomon, Deborah Aluh, Rui Diogo, Michael Sheldrick, Annamaria Lusardi, Katy Rubin, Alex Edmans, and Jacqueline de Montaigne join the already announced Durão Barroso, Carlos Gonçalo das Neves, Mariana Van Zeller, Sherri Aldis, Zaynab Ali Abdi, Sir Richard Roberts, Derek Ali, Mónica Ferro, and Watatakalu Yawalapiti.

Author of more than 450 articles and about 100 editorials, the American Daniel Solomon, professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School, is internationally recognized for his research in rheumatological epidemiology. Solomon is dedicated to the study and research of biological therapies, as well as their long-term efficacy and safety.

Deborah Aluh, a Nigerian specialist known for her commitment to mental health and her contributions to reducing the stigma associated with mental disorders, will share innovative experiences to improve understanding and treatment of mental health issues in various cultural and economic contexts.
The event also confirms the presence of Annamaria Lusardi, an Italian researcher from the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research (SIEPR) and Director of the Financial Decision-Making Initiative in Italy. The academic, a specialist in Financial Literacy, brings her pioneering work in personal financial education to the conference. She is a prominent figure in financial literacy, founder of the Global Financial Literacy Excellence Center (GFLEC) where she serves as Academic Director, and editor of the Journal of Financial Literacy and Wellbeing, published by Cambridge University Press.

Internationally recognized for addressing major scientific challenges and social issues, Rui Diogo, author of extensive work including the publication of 20 books and over 160 articles in prestigious scientific journals, adds his innovative research on human evolution to the Estoril Conferences. His work focuses on research experiences in remote areas of Africa and Asia. Committed to challenging norms and advocating for inclusion, Rui Diogo is a prominent global figure influencing the discourse on human evolution, biology, and diversity. Author of acclaimed books such as “Evolution Driven by Organismal Behavior”, “Meaning of Life, Human Nature and Delusions“, and “Darwin’s Racism, Sexism, and Idolization“, he joins the conference speakers’ panel.

Alex Edmans, a British economist and Professor of Finance with a PhD from MIT, was a tenured professor at Wharton and an investment banker at Morgan Stanley. A keynote speaker at the World Economic Forum in Davos and a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Council on Responsible Investing, he is also the author of “Grow the Pie”, which was named Book of the Year by the Financial Times. Alex Edmans has won 25 teaching awards and was named “Professor of the Year” by Poets & Quants in 2021. He brings his expertise in the financial world to the event.

The Estoril Conferences also confirm the presence of Katy Rubin, a specialist in ‘Legislative Theatre,’ who works in partnership with local and national governments, advocacy organizations, and community groups to co-create equitable and innovative policy changes through participatory processes considered creative, accessible, and effective. Katy Rubin is a Senior Fellow at People Powered, an Associate at Shared Future CIC, and an Atlantic Fellow for Social and Economic Equity at the London School of Economics.

Jacqueline de Montaigne, a painter, muralist, and self-taught artist with a background in medical ethics and health sciences, will also be attending. Jacqueline’s public art ranked 35th in the top 100 murals of the world by Street Art Cities in 2023, with her mural ‘The Language of Flowers’ in Lisbon, marking the first time a Portuguese woman was listed in the world’s top 100.

Michael Sheldrick, an American political entrepreneur and a significant international influence in the fight against extreme poverty, has also been confirmed. The co-founder of Global Citizen leads campaigns and social events to mobilize support from governments, businesses, and foundations and has been responsible for some of the most impactful mobilization actions worldwide (Global Citizen Festival and One World: Together At Home), through which millions of dollars have been raised to combat global extreme poverty. Michael Sheldrick is also the author of the bestseller “From Ideas to Impact” and was a finalist for the Commonwealth Youth Person of the Year Award in 2017.
