Aleksander Kwaśniewski

Aleksander Kwaśniewski is the former President of Poland (1995 – 2005). He participated in the famous “Round-Table” negotiations that finally brought the peaceful transformation of Poland and the whole Central and Eastern Europe from communism to democracy. It was under his leadership that Poland finally joined NATO and become a member of the European Union. Aleksander is one of the leading figures in European Politics and author of numerous local and regional initiatives.

Andri Magnason

Author of “On Time and Water”, a national best seller in Iceland, shortlisted for the Nordic Councils Literary Prize of 2021. Andri has written novels, poetry, plays, short stories and essays. He is a popular public speaker, with sold out performances in The Reykjavik City Theatre, and the codirector of the documentary film “Dreamland”, “The Hero’s Journey to the Third Pole” and more recently “Apausalypse”. Andri’s work has been published or performed in more than 40 countries.

Anne Applebaum

Currently writing for “The Atlantic”, Anne is a Senior Fellow at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies and the Agora Institute, where she co-directs Arena, a program on disinformation and 21st century propaganda. Anne has occuppied several editorial positions in different newspapers and magazines, such as the Washington Post and the Evening Standard. She is also the author of several books, being “Twilight of Democracy: The Seductive Lure of Authoritarianism” the most recent.

António Simões

António is a global banking executive nominated as CEO of Santander Spain & Regional Head of Europe in June 2021 and a strong advocate of diversity and inclusion. His work experience includes HSBC Group Managing Director in 2016, Head of Retail Banking and Wealth Management, Europe; Chief of Staff to the Group Chief Executive and Group Head of Strategy and Planning. He was also the Chairman of the Practitioner Panel of the FCA, a Partner of McKinsey & Company, and an Associate at Goldman Sachs.

António Vitorino

António has over 27 years of international and national political and academic experience, including former positions as Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defense of Portugal and European Commissioner for Justice and Home Affairs, for instance, which brought him consistently in touch with the migration context. He is an experienced lawyer, advocate against inequalities, discrimination, violence and social exclusion endured by migrants and a fond promoter of civil society and private sector engagement, having contributed to the work of several prestigious think tanks and foundations.

Aya Chebbi

Aya Chebbi is a multi-award-winning Pan-African feminist and diplomat who served as the first as the first-ever African Union Special Envoy on Youth and the youngest diplomat at the African Union Commission Chairperson’s Cabinet. She rose to prominence as a voice for democracy as a political blogger during 2010/2011 Tunisia’s Revolution. Aya’s decade of experience made her an influential leading voice known for rebranding Africa, with a commitment in peacebuilding, gender equality and Africa’s integration, honoured with several awards and recognitions.

Bertrand Piccard

Psychiatrist and explorer, Bertrand Piccard made history by accomplishing two aeronautical firsts – flying around the world non-stop in a balloon, and more recently in a solar-powered airplane plane without fuel. Pioneer in his way to consider ecology through the lens of profitability, he began working in the early 2000s to promote renewable energies and clean technologies. As Chairman of the Solar Impulse Foundation, he has succeeded in his mission to select 1000 profitable solutions to protect the environment and support clean growth.

Bodour Al Qasimi

A trailblazer in the global publishing scene, Bodour is creating a positive impact on the world by pushing IPA’s agenda on the freedom to publish and intellectual property rights. Under her leadership, IPA launched the International Sustainable Publishing and Industry Resilience (InSPIRe) initiative to build solidarity and collaboration between members of the publishing ecosystem. She also oversaw the launch of the IPA Academy, a one of its kind online educational platform designed to support publishers in developing core business skills to build more resilient and sustainable organizations.

As the CEO and founder of Kalimat Publishing Group, Bodour has been an avid advocate of the role of books and literacy in enlightening children. In 2019, Bodour’s work in women’s empowerment crossed a unique milestone as she established PublisHer, an informal networking body that seeks to increase the number of women in leadership roles within the publishing industry.

Brigette Hyacinth

Brigette has authored 5 books, including “The Future of Leadership: Rise of Automation, Robotics and Artificial Intelligence” which has been ranked Top 100 Best Artificial Intelligence Books of All Time. She is also the founder of MBA Caribbean Organisation, specialized in seminars and workshops in leadership, management and education. Recognized as an international influencer on Leadership, among other acnkowledgments, Brigette has been travelling around the world, sharing her insights with organizations all over globe.

Catherine Duggan

Dr Duggan’s research is focused on the political economy of development in Africa, where she has worked for more than twenty years and in more than two dozen countries. She is the author of numerous case studies and regularly advises businesses, governments and educational institutions on the continent and beyond. She was previously Vice Dean at ALUSB, a new business school in Rwanda, and spent nearly a decade on the faculty of Harvard Business School.

Cátia Batista

Cátia Batista is an Associate Professor of Economics at Nova University Lisbon, where she is also the Founder and Scientific Director of the NOVAFRICA research center. She holds a PhD in Economics from the Department of Economics at the University of Chicago. Batista’s research interests relate to international migration and remittance flows, mobile money, entrepreneurship, technology adoption, education, and policy evaluation. Cátia taught at the University of Chicago, University of Oxford, Trinity College Dublin, and Notre Dame University. She is currently a Research Fellow at the international research centers CReAM (United Kingdom) and IZA (Germany). Previously, Batista worked at the International Monetary Fund and the Portuguese Catholic University and consulted for the World Bank and the International Growth Center.

Carlos Carreiras

Carlos Carreiras has been Mayor of Municipality of Cascais since 2011, winning three elections with an absolute majority and some of the most expressive votes ever in the municipality.

During his terms in office, Carlos Carreiras was Vice President of the Social Democratic Party (2014/2016), President of the social democratic think-tank Instituto Francisco Sá Carneiro (2010/2013) and founder of the Social Democratic Youth.

He is a training manager and, before executive politics, he was a company administrator in the field of FMCG and tourism. 

A columnist for the “i” newspaper and author of the book “Com vista para o Atlântico”, Carlos Carreiras was born in 1961 and is the father of five daughters.

Daniel Traça

Daniel Traça is the Dean and Professor of Economics at Nova School of Business and Economics (Nova SBE) in Lisbon. He is also a Visiting Professor at INSEAD, in France and Singapore, where he was previously an Assistant Professor. He held the Marie et Alain Philippson Chair in Managing for Sustainable Human Development, at the Solvay Business School, in Brussels, where he was Vice-President and Director of the MBA Program.

Daniel was a Visiting Professor in the KDI School of Management and Policy in Seoul, and the Graduate Institute of International Economics, in Geneva. Daniel graduated from Nova SBE and obtained his PhD from Columbia University, New York. He worked as a consultant for the World Bank and the European Commission. He published his scientific research in several leading international academic journals in the field of Globalization and Economic Development.

Emile Von Schomberg

Emile studied Mathematics at Utrecht University and is currently enrolled in the CEMS Master in Management at Nova SBE. He has worked as an university teaching assistant and as an exam preparation coach. Along with his academic experiences, his passion for travelling has led him to found Philoxenia: an ongoing project in which he previously coordinated and managed an Erasmus+ funded intercultural exchange for 40 people from 17 different nationalities. Last year, he joined the Estoril Conferences Organization team. In his free time, he composes music and performs in different music concerts.

Fehmi Yüksel

Fehmi joined McKinsey 10 years ago and serves mainly clients from the Advanced Industries sector around multiple industry-shaping topics. Being among the EMEA core leads in McKinsey’s Sustainability & Decarbonization Service line, Fehmi shapes strategies as well as the day-to-day client agenda on topics such as ESG positioning, Product & Supply Chain Decarbonization, or Circular Business Models. Fehmi serves clients mainly in Europe, Japan, and the USA and also led McKinsey’s work together with the World Economic Forum’s Circular Cars Initiative. Fehmi holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering & Business Administration from RWTH Aachen University having also studied at UC Berkeley and ETH Zurich.

Francis Fukuyama

Francis Fukuyama is Olivier Nomellini Senior Fellow at Stanford University’s Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies (FSI), and a faculty member of FSI’s Center on Democracy, Development, and the Rule of Law (CDDRL).  He is also Director of Stanford’s Ford Dorsey Masters in International Policy Program, and a professor (by courtesy) of Political Science.

Dr. Fukuyama has written widely on issues in development and international politics.  His 1992 book, The End of History and the Last Man, has appeared in over twenty foreign editions.   His most recent book,  Liberalism and Its Discontents, was published in the spring of 2022.

Francis Fukuyama received his B.A. from Cornell University in classics, and his Ph.D. from Harvard in Political Science.  He was a member of the Political Science Department of the RAND Corporation,  and of the Policy Planning Staff of the US Department of State.  From 1996-2000 he was Omer L. and Nancy Hirst Professor of Public Policy at the School of Public Policy at George Mason University, and from 2001-2010 he was Bernard L. Schwartz Professor of International Political Economy at the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies, Johns Hopkins University.  He served as a member of the President’s Council on Bioethics from 2001-2004. 

Dr. Fukuyama holds honorary doctorates from Connecticut College, Doane College, Doshisha University (Japan), Kansai University (Japan), and Aarhus University (Denmark), and the Pardee Rand Graduate School.  He is a non-resident fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.  He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Rand Corporation, the Board of Governors of the Pardee Rand Graduate School, the Board of Trustees of Freedom House, and the Board of the Volcker Alliance.  He is a member of the American Political Science Association and the Council on Foreign Relations.  He is married to Laura Holmgren and has three children.

Gerd Leonhard

Gerd is a Futurist and a Humanist, a leading global Keynote Speaker (on stage as well as virtually), the Author of 5 books including ‘Technology vs. Humanity’ and a Film-Maker. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Arts in London, and the CEO of “The Futures Agency” in Zürich. “Embrace technology but don’t become it” is his credo.

Gonzalo Fanjul

Gonzalo Fanjul is a policy analyst, activist and social innovator working on global poverty and inequality, with a particular interest on the future of global health, child poverty and the narratives that will transform a broken migration regime. Since 2018, he’s a fellow at Ashoka social innovation network. He is the author of ‘3.500 Millones’, El País’ referential blog on poverty, and a regular contributor to various media platforms.

Helena Gualinga

Helena Gualinga, 20, of Kichwa Indigenous and Finland-swedish decent is an Indigenous climate justice and human rights defender who advocates  for the protection of the Amazon Rainforest and Indigenous people’s rights. Gualinga is from the Kichwa community of Sarayaku, a community that has been fighting against big oil for decades. She is a co-founder of  Polluters Out and has attended conferences such as COP 26 and other Climate Summits. She has been featured in Vogue, Vice magazine and in Forbes for her attendance in Davos and recently in the documentary “Helena Sarayakumanta”.

Hryhoriy Nemyria

Hryhoriy is the First Deputy Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Parliament of Ukraine and Deputy Chairman of the Batkivshchyna Party. In the previous Rada convocations, Dr. Nemyria chaired the Committees on European Integration and on Human Rights.

He served as Deputy Prime Minister in the government of Prime Minister Tymoshenko (2007- 2010). He was Governor from Ukraine in the World Bank and Co-Chairman of the Ukraine-China Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation.

From 2006-2007, Dr. Nemyria was the Deputy Head of the Parliamentary Delegation to the PACE and the Ukrainian delegation to the Committee on Parliamentary Cooperation between Ukraine and the EU. In Ms. Tymoshenko’s first government (2005), he served as her Foreign Policy Advisor.

Dr. Nemyria comes from Donetsk where he began his academic career. He has an MA in History from Donetsk University and a Ph.D. from Kyiv Shevchenko University. He became Vice-Rector of the National University of Kyiv Mohyla Academy and chaired the European Integration Department of the National Academy of Public Administration. He is also a graduate of the National Security Program at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard.

Irene Heemskerk

Irene Heemskerk was appointed Head of the European Central Bank of Climate Change Centre in 2021, a position she occupies today, on a mission to shape and steer the ECB’s climate agenda internally and externally. She is currently an Observer at EFRAG Sustainability Reporting Board, member of the TIME 2030 Committee Advising on Solutions for the Future and member of the Advisory Board of the International Union for Conservation of Nature for their Finance for Nature initiative. Irene has worked previously as a Sustainability Fellow at the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) Foundation and was until recently advisor to the Chair of the Network for Greening the Financial System at De Nederlandsche Bank, where she held several positions, including Senior Policy Advisor on Climate Risks and Sustainability.

Isabelle Christina

As a teenager, Isabelle founded “Meninas Negras”, a social project that combats racial and gender inequalities in Brazil. She is currently leading it as Head of Strategy, while working at Oracle as a Business Development Consultant. Board member of “Força Meninas” and Ambassador of the “One Million Opportunities (1MiO)” initiative led by UNICEF, Isabelle is also a member of the first generation of Ashoka Young Changemakers in Latin America.

Joséphine Goubeo

Joséphine is Sistech’s CEO (previously #TF4Women by Techfugees), a non-profit empowering uprooted & displaced women through the qualified and sustainable tech & digital jobs of their choice, with a team of 9 people in France, Italy and Greece. Recognized as one of the “30 under 30 Social Entrepreneurs” by Forbes and member of the board of the Norwegian Refugee Council and she acts as an informal expert for the European Commission on migration.

Ulisses Correia e Silva

His Excellency José Ulisses de Pina Correia e Silva is the fifth Prime Minister of the Republic of Cabo Verde and is also President of Movement for Democracy (MPD), the country’s majority party. Since he became the head of government in April 2016, Prime Minister Correia e Silva has led Cabo Verde along the path of sustained economic growth and critical political reform, having also championed a pragmatic, regional approach to problem-solving and forged unprecedented partnerships with municipal leaders. Internationally, Prime Minister Correia e Silva has been instrumental in building Cabo Verde’s reputation as the historic crossroads of Africa, the Americas, and Europe while simultaneously strengthening its emerging strategic value for transatlantic collaboration.

Katharina Wagner

Katharina Wagner is an Associate Partner in McKinsey’s Berlin office. She is passionate about all topics relevant to the prosperity, wellbeing and security of European citizens. In her work, she supports her clients in defining strategies to achieve these goals. In her free time, she loves to move (spinning, running, yoga, skiing) and play board games. Katharina holds a Master in International Business (WHU) and a Master in International Affairs (Columbia University).

Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović

Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović is the 4th President and 1st female President of the Republic of Croatia, first female Assistant Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), as well as Croatia’s first female Minister of Foreign Affairs and Ambassador to the United States. Experienced politician, national and international diplomat, with expertise in geopolitical studies, the Trans-Atlantic relationship, inter-faith and inter-cultural relations, European and Eurasian studies, relations with Russia, gender issues and global security issues. Kolinda has been honoured with several awards, decorations, honorary doctorates and honorary citizenships.

Lars Strannegård

Lars is a Professor of Management Studies and holder of the Bo Rydin and SCA Chair in Business Administration, Leadership. Focused on aesthetics, branding, organization and leadership, Dr. Strannegård has carried out research on organizing and management practice in multinational organizations and his work has been published in several journals. He is the chairperson of Beckmans School of Design and member of the Board of Trustees of the Centre for Business and Policy Studies (SNS).

Lee Crockford

Lee is a social impact advisor and non-executive director working to solve complex global challenges through innovation, design, impact measurement, and behaviour change. His work spans the domains of mental health, education, environment, technology, and justice across private, public, and non-profit sectors.

Lee has been a Global Laureate Fellow, Impact Academy Fellow, G20 Youth Representative, Victorian LGBTIQ+ Leader, AMP Tomorrowmaker, and D&F Academy Fellow. His work has also been awarded by Good Design, UNLEASH, Impact 25, Australian Scholarships, Pro Bono Australia, and Advance Queensland.

Luisa Gómez Bravo

Luisa Gómez Bravo is currently the Global Head of Corporate & Investment Banking at Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria SA (BBVA). She has worked in the BBVA Group for more than 20 years, having served in several relevant positions, such as Global Head of Investment & Cost Management (2017-2018); Head of Investors & Shareholders Relations (2014-2017); Head of Transformation & Operations at BBVA Spain & Portugal (2012-2014), and Global Head of Asset Management (2008-2012), for instance.

Luc Oster-Pecqueur

Luc is a manager at McKinsey & Company’s Paris Office, part of the sustainability practice, helping his clients understand their emissions footprints, setting targets and measuring their alignments with the goals of the Paris agreement, and detailing actions they can take to reduce their emissions, mainly with the financial sector. Beyond his work, Luc has historically been part of the lead of GLAM, McKinsey’s LGBTQ+ community in the Paris office.

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa was elected President of the Republic for the first time in 2016 and was re-elected for a second term in 2021. He has held various positions in local government, including Municipal Deputy, Metropolitan Deputy, Councillor and President of the Municipal Assemblies of Cascais, Lisbon, and Celorico de Basto. A Law Graduate, he received a Doctorate in Legal and Political Science in 1984. He was a tenured professor at the Faculty of Law of Lisbon University, and has taught throughout his career in various institutions of further education, in Portugal and abroad. He was a journalist, as editor of the Expresso newspaper, and worked on the Seminário newspaper. Subsequently, he appeared on the media as a political commentator on TSF radio and, later, the TV stations RTP and TVI. He works with various civic institutions and associations, as well as in the social sector, as founder, sponsor, director, or simply as a volunteer.

Mário Centeno

Mário Centeno is the Governor of Banco de Portugal since July 2020. He was Minister of Finance of Portugal between 2015-2020 and former president of the Eurogroup and chair of the Board of Governors of the European Stability Mechanism. An experienced economist, Mr. Centeno has held several positions in Banco de Portugal, where he started his career in 1993. Mette Morsing

Mette is the Head of PRME – Principles for Responsible Management Education, an initiative of the UN Global Compact. Mistra Chair of Sustainable Markets and Scientific Director at Misum, she has been a professor at Copenhagen Business School (CBS), where she was Founding Director of the CBS Center for Corporate Social Responsibility for 10 years. She also served as an Academic Director of the CBS Sustainability Platform. Mette teaches sustainability management and corporate social responsibility in Executive Education at SSE and at PhD level.

Miguel Pinto Luz

Miguel Martinez de Castro Pinto Luz is the current Deputy Mayor of Cascais/Portugal (population 230,000).
Since 2005 he has held various public positions, both in central government, as Secretary of State for Infrastructure, Transport and Communications during Portugal’s XX Constitutional Government, and in his hometown, Cascais. Miguel is currently President of the Alfredo de Sousa Foundation, Vice-President of the Tourism Board of the Lisbon region and member of the Board of Directors of the Inclusive Community Forum. He has a degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico (University of Lisbon), he continued his academic and research career at the same school, completing a master’s in computer networks, where he also taught in several undergraduate and postgraduate courses, he currently teaches at the Nova School of Business and Economics.

Paulo Portas

Paulo Portas served as Portugal’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister (2011-2015) and the Minister of Defense (2002-2005). Portas graduated in Law from the Catholic University of Lisbon and now teaches Geo-economics and International Relations at Nova SBE University, IE, Pontificia Comillas in Madrid, and Emirates Diplomatic Academy (Abu Dhabi). Pedro A. Neto

Pedro has been serving as Executive Director of Amnistia International – Portugal since 2016, advising the Commission for Equality and Against Racial Discrimination (CICDR). He was one of the founders and Executive President of ONGD ORBIS – Cooperation and Development, in Aveiro, where he carried out development projects in Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau and Mozambique. Roberta Metsola

Roberta Metsola was elected President of the European Parliament in January 2022. She was first elected to the European Parliament in 2013, becoming one of Malta’s first female Members of the European Parliament. Metsola was re-elected in 2014 and then again in 2019.In 2020 she was elected as the First Vice President of the European Parliament, becoming the first Maltese national to hold the post. She was responsible for the European Parliament’s relations with national parliaments and for the Parliament’s participation in the interreligious dialogue governed by Article 17 of the treaties. Within the European Parliament, President Metsola was the EPP Group’s Coordinator in the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs, between January 2017 and 2020. Yulia Tymoshenko

Adriana Pomante

Adriana is a 23-year-old student at Nova SBE pursuing the CEMS Master’s in International Management. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. She is the co-founder and President of the Nova SBE Politics Club, a student initiative that aims to bring Nova students closer to the spheres of politics, diplomacy, world economy and international relations, through both theoretical and on-field experiences. She is also a member of NOMA Marketing Consulting, the student-run Strategic Marketing firm of Nova SBE, where her role ranged from Project Manager to Project Supervisor to (currently) Head of Supervisors. Carlo Alberto Frassinetto

Carlo Alberto is an Italian 24-year-old student and volleyball player. While pursuing his Bachelor’s degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics (PPE) at LUISS Guido Carli University in Rome, he was working closely with United Nations bodies and several representations within the Italian capital. During his exchange semester at the Moscow’s Higher School of Economics, Carlo Alberto got the opportunity to learn more about business administration, therefore deciding to start a new academic journey at Nova SBE, where today he is part of the CEMS Master’s in International Management Program, of which he is also Student Board Representative. As a reflection of his academic path and professional experiences in several countries, Carlo Alberto embarked on the mission of building more bridges between the private and the public worlds, by – among the others – co-founding and being the first President of the Nova SBE Politics Club.

Jana Degrott

Jana Degrott is an Obama Leader and the Co-Founder of We Belong Europe, an initiative to inspire next-generation leadership for young European women of color to create a future pool of role models. We Belong brings women of color together in healing spaces, free of hatred and discrimination, to share and reflect on their experiences, examine their histories and identities, and construct their own life narratives. Melissa is a 24-year-old student pursuing her CEMS Master in Management at NOVA Sbe and the University of Sydney. She holds a Bachelor degree in International Business from Maastricht University. In the last years she has worked and lived in 3 different cities in the field of Marketing at several FMCG companies and now specializes in the field of Technology Consulting and Digital Business. Last year, she joined the Estoril Conferences Organizing team. Besides, in her free time she is passionate about traveling and has visited over 30 countries already, plays Lacrosse and Volleyball and loves game nights.

Nondumiso Holphe

Nondumiso is currently the Director – Global Shapers Mbabane. She holds a Bachelor of Social Science with Honors degree, in Political and International Studies, from Rhodes University.  She was named an inaugural Queen’s Young Leader winner by Queen Elizabeth II and a Commonwealth Young Achiever (2015), being recognized as a policy influencer on SADC’s Top 100 Youth list (2018). Roman Dobrokhotov

Roman is the founder and editor-in-chief of The Insider, a Russian independent online magazine focused on investigations and debunking of fake news. He has a Ph.D. in political science and used to be a civil activist and organiser of protest campaigns in support of human rights. “The Insider” was founded in 2013 and since than Roman has participated in many important investigations concerning Russian trolls and hackers, invasion in Ukraine, GRU operations in Europe, corruption of the Russian government and many others. Ana holds a degree in Environmental Engineering, with a post-graduation in Business Management. Ana Pimentel

Ana Pimentel is the author of the book Unicórnios Portugueses – A história das startups de mil milhões de dólares (Portuguese Unicorns – The Story of the Billion Dollars Startups), and has hosted the Unicórnios Podcast. Journalist, editor, writer, and podcaster, she wrote about entrepreneurship and technology for several years at Observador and moderated national and international conferences such as Web Summit, Portugal Digital Summit and European Commission Initiatives. She has led two successful multi-national teams in KA3 Eramus + projects in policy experimentation (www.newtt.eu, www.projectnest.eu). In 2021, she served as an advisor to the caretaker Minister of Education and Science. Dr Koleva teaches a course on social entrepreneurship at the American University of Bulgaria’s EMBA program.

Drª Yasmin Bhudarally

Drª Yasmin Bhudarally took her degree in Law from Universidade Clássica in 1991. Post-graduated in Notarial and Registral Law, Drª Yasmin is the CEO of NEYA Hotels since 2008 and Chairman of the Mediation and Arbitration Department of the Ismaili Community.

Deimantė Žemgulytė

Deimante is a Project Leader at Transparency International Lithuania. She holds a Bachelor‘s degree in Political Science from the Institute of International Relations and Political Science at Vilnius University. Currently she is studying for a degree in MSc Public Policy at University of Bath.At Transparency International Lithuania, Deimantė coordinates various initiatives related to whistleblower protection, money laundering prevention, media transparency, citizen participation and inclusion, together with the team organizes annual Transparency International School on Integrity. Prior to joining TI Lithuania, she gained experience in Vilnius City municipality and in private sector working with anti-money laundering compliance.

Diogo Teixeira

Diogo Teixeira is Co-Founder of Beta-I since January 2018, and since January 2022 CEO of the company. Previously he was a founder and partner at Couture, Head of Strategy, Business Development and Client Services.With a bachelor’s in Communication Studies, before founding Couture in 2010, Diogo worked for PT Multimedia, RTP, Euronews and Euro 2004.

With a passion for entrepreneurship, Diogo is still a partner of TorkeCC, an internationally awarded creative agency, and founder of Billy The Group, a startup accelerator that invests in disruptive businesses. He is a lecturer at Catolica Lisbon School of Business Economics and frequent speaker at Innovation and Strategic Marketing conferences.

Filipa Pinto Coelho

Filipa graduated in Social and Cultural Communication at Portuguese Catholic University in 1998, post-graduated in Marketing and later specialized in Luxury Marketing at the same university. Her professional career started as communication manager due to her passion to help companies to efficiently reach their internal and external customers, and has done that in several companies in Porto and Lisbon.

After having been invited to work as a marketing director at a portuguese luxury Group for about four years, she set up her own consultancy business as an independent marketing professional in the lifestyle market. It was when she’s got pregnant of her third child – Manuel – who was diagnosed with Down Syndrome at the 15th week of pregnancy – that her life and professional path changed completely.

Love and Passion commanded the rest of Filipa’s story up to now. She used her know-how to set-up a social entrepreneurship project named CafécomVida, on behalf of the NGO that she created together with a group of parents of children with cognitive impairment – VilacomVida -, whose mission is to transform people’s lives by promoting a quality-based experience with young adults diagnosed namely with Down Syndrome and Autism, allowing them to show the world their hidden super-powers. Now Filipa represents exclusively, through the ONG VilacomVida and the company Joyeux Portugal, the first social franchising of the mission and brand Café Joyeux, which it intends to expand throughout the country, so that more and more people get to know the added value of difference.

Francisco Cardoso

Francisco is a Law graduate and he has worked with children, as a volunteer, since he was 17 years old in inumerous summer camps, activities and groups. These experiences gave him the desire to help children find their talents and put them in service of others. Because he wanted to find ways for more children to get these opportunities, Francisco joined Teach For Portugal in 2021 as a Mentor at Agrupamento de Escolas de São João do Estoril.

Inês Justino

Born and raised in Algarve, Inês is a Sociology graduate and post-graduated. Ever since she was little, Inês wanted to go to university, but her parents didn’t support her financially. So she started working while studying. At 21 she discovered her passion for Education. She found Teach For Portugal and she truly believes all children must have an education that allows them to fulfill their potential, regardless of their socioeconomic background. Now, Inês is a Teach For Portugal Mentor at Agrupamento de Escolas Alexandre Herculano.

Jane Hoffman

Jane Hoffman is the CEO of Daloop. Before moving from New York to Porto, she has started and led other companies like Veniam through the stages of founding, growth, acquisition and public company exit. In the roles of President, COO, and CBO (Chief Business Officer), she has complemented the CEO and their leadership teams.

Joana Castro e Costa

Joana Castro e Costa is currently Executive Director of the Leadership for Impact Knowledge Centre. She has a master’s in management, from Nova SBE, and several years of field experience in consulting and management in the private and public sectors. Namely she has worked in telecommunications, education, and IT, and in functions regarding project management, marketing, business development, partnership management, quality & security, and advisory to board of directors.

João Meneses

João Meneses is the Secretary-General of BCSD Portugal. He holds degrees in Business Administration (bachelor), Marketing (bachelor) and Development Studies (master), and executive programs from Harvard, Stanford, Kellogg School of Management, IMD, Cambridge and INSEAD. With solid management and leadership experience in the private, public, and nonprofit sectors, as well as teaching in two top Portuguese universities, he is currently the Secretary-General of the Business Council for Sustainable Development (BCSD) Portugal, a member of the Global Network of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD). Previously, he was general manager of a venture fund, director of two incubators (one web-tech and the other one for creative industries), Secretary of State for Youth and Sports, head of the team in charge of the rehabilitation of an historic area in the center of Lisbon (Mouraria and Intendente), cofounder and CEO of a Portuguese NGO working in Portugal and Africa, and CFO at Chapitô. He’s also Co-Founder of Festival Sónar in Lisbon.

José Maria Pimentel

José Maria Pimentel is an Economist, having worked for various years in Banking Supervision. He is also the author of the podcast 45 Graus, a space where he holds conversation and debates ideas with experts from various sectors, ranging from science and politics to philosophy and economy.

Karina Carvalho

Karina Carvalho is currently the Executive Director of Transparency International Portugal, the Portuguese chapter of Transparency International (TI), the global anti-corruption coalition, where she also serves on the Membership Accreditation Committee. Graduated in Sociology at the University of Coimbra, she continued her advanced studies in Globalization, Development Cooperation, Migrations, Inter-Ethnicities and Transnationalism and is now concluding a Master in African Studies at Iscte – University Institute of Lisbon. In 2017, Karina obtained the SCCE Business Compliance & Ethics Professional (International) certification.

Before joining TI Portugal, she worked as expert in HRM and Human Capital and developed consultancy projects in many and different fields, from education and training to gender mainstreaming, organizational capacity building, internal communications, social responsibility, corporate governance, and entrepreneurship, for companies and NGOs in Portugal and Angola.

Kelsey Beltz

Managing Director at The Good Lobby, where she leads projects on advocacy, transparency, and sustainability. With a background in human rights campaigning and migration policy, she holds a Master of Public Policy from Sciences Po Paris and a Master of Law and Diplomacy from The Fletcher School at Tufts University.

Laurence Fabre

Laurence practiced as a lawyer in business criminal law. It leads the program relating to the integrity of economic actors. She steers Transparency France’s partnerships with private sector organizations on ethical issues. Laurence Fabre is a referent on “justice and law” issues and leads the actions on whistleblowing. She is also responsible for the Higher Education program as part of which she coordinates the awareness campaigns delivered by the organization to higher education establishments; it leads the Erasmus program of which Transparency France is a partner. Laurence also teaches business criminal law at universities.

Lena Bell

Lena is currently a Senior Consultant at McKinsey & Company, where she mainly works on projects enhancing sustainability, capturing lifecycle value and pushing green business building – in established companies and within new start-ups.

Just before shifting her work focus to green topics, she pursued a PhD in “Green last mile logistics” at the WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management in collaboration with Zalando.

In her freetime, she loves to volunteer in local projects with refugees and homeless poeple, is active in her Carnival association and pushes “Social Responsibility” inside and outside of McKinsey.

Luís Araújo

Luis Araújo is the President of Turismo de Portugal (Portuguese National Tourism Authority) since February 2016. He is also President of ETC – European Travel Commission since September 2020 and President of NEST – Tourism Innovation Center in Portugal. He has a degree in Law. Board Member at Group Pestana responsible for the Hispanic America hotels operations Argentina, Venezuela, Colombia and Cuba. He was also Head of Development for the same Continent and Head of Sustainability since the creation of the department in 2009. From 2001 to 2005 he worked for the Brazilian branch of the company where he was successively Board’s Associate for New Projects in Brazil, Board Member and Vice President for the Group Pestana in South America, with responsibility for New Business Development and Area Operations. He served the Portuguese Government as Head of the Cabinet of the Portuguese Secretary of State for Tourism between 2005 and 2007.

Madalena Jalles

Just a Change is a portuguese association that focuses on combating national housing poverty. Madalena is responsible for planning and developing team building activities that Just a Change organizes, while also managing the organisation’s partnerships.

Madalena has a degree in PR and a post-grad in Hospitality Management, having working in hospitality before joining Just a Change.

Manuel Tânger

Manuel Tânger holds an MSc in Physics from Instituto Superior Técnico in Lisbon which he concluded with a top graded final thesis supervised by Physics Nobel Prize Winner 1999 Gerard t’Hooft at the University of Utrecht. He started his professional career at Mercer HR Consulting, worked for Danone before becoming Brand Manager of Vitasnella.

In 2009, Manuel co-founded Beta-i, where he is a board member and Head of Future. As founder of LC Ventures, one of the most active funds in Portugal, Manuel has been supporting the early-stage startup ecosystem. Manuel is also a Singularity University faculty member, specializing in innovation and entrepreneurship.

Maria Azevedo

Maria graduated in Biochemistry and worked as a cancer researcher for 10 years. After working and living in Portugal, London and Madrid, at the end of her PhD, she had the opportunity to move to Manvi, a small town in central India, where she taught Biology and Chemistry at secondary school for 1 year. What Maria learned from her students and from the children of the orphanage where she lived was much more than she taught. This year changed her forever. In 2015, Maria joined Pedro in founding Teach For Portugal as she believes that only the transformation of education can make our world fairer. It is in this better world that Maria wants her children and all children to grow up. For her, it is a privilege to be able to contribute to change!

Maria José Francisco

With 30 years of international experience in technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship, she has integrated neuroscience and emotional intelligence into her main areas of engineering. With this plurality of knowledge and some easy and practical brain-based techniques, she helps people and companies to work at their best performance, with minimum effort and maximum happiness. She loves to simplify and solve difficult problems. Humane, flexible and very, very resilient!

Mariana Nunes

Mário Centeno

With a Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University, he was Portugal’s Minister of Finance from 2015 to 2020 and Eurogroup’s President from 2018 to 2020. During his tenure as President, Centeno represented the Euro Area at the G7 Finance Ministers group and the G4 Finance Ministers group.

Matia Losego

Matia has a degree in Socio-Cultural Animation with specialization in Intercultural Mediation from Escola Superior de Educação de Lisboa and a master’s degree in Education and Society from ISCTE-IUL. He is currently the Director of Youth and Education for Human Rights at Amnesty International Portugal.He has developed his work in the youth and non-formal education sector, focusing on Education for Human Rights, the promotion of Youth Participation in its various dimensions and the promotion of social inclusion. Matia coordinated the most recent Portuguese edition of Compass – Manual of Education For Human Rights with Young People from the Council of Europe, published by Dínamo. Besides non-formal education, he works as a storyteller for children and adults.

Matilde Oliveira

Matilde Oliveira graduated from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, as Informatics Engineering. Started her journey in the Junior Enterprises Network as member of FEP Junior Consulting and was Partnerships Manager at Junior Enterprises Portugal. Currently is the International Manager for Junior Enterprises Portugal, the Federation responsible for representing the Portuguese Junior Enterprises. As Head of International Affairs, the responsibilities are to discuss and exchange the vision of the European and Global network, to align the Portuguese strategy with it.

Matteo Chiarofonte

Matteo Chiarofonte is the President of Junior Enterprises Europe representing 34’000 Junior Entrepreneurs from 16 European countries. As Head of Public Affairs, he tackles topics such as sustainability, entrepreneurial education, and skills development. His work is focused on empowering higher education students, promoting learning by doing philosophy, and fostering economic and social growth through Junior Enterprises.

Minna Vourio

Since May 2020, Minna Vuorio is the Director of the European Personnel Selection Office (EPSO) and the Principal of the European School of Administration (EuSA). She oversees the daily running of staff selection procedures for recruiting EU institutions and the provision of top-quality training courses for their staff. A core part of her five-year mandate involves change management and the modernisation of EPSO and its underlying IT systems.

Her career in EU institutions started shortly after her home country, Finland, joined the European Union on 1 January 1995. She worked for twenty-five years in the General Secretariat of the Council of the European Union, starting out as a translator and reviser. In 2007, she became an open source analyst of the Joint Situation Centre which reported to Javier Solana, the Secretary-General of the Council of the European Union and High Representative for EU Foreign Policy. In 2010, Minna Vuorio returned Finnish language unit as its head and moved on for six months in 2016 as head of the resources and translation support unit. As of July 2016, she became the Director of LING1, including one operational unit and 12 language units to a total of about 450 staff.

Minna Vuorio has three sons and is passionate about diversity, multilingualism and collaborative approaches to work.

Minnie Freudenthal

Minnie’s international experience and her holistic approach to medicine, has led her to integrate nutrition, clinical hypnosis and mindfulness in her practice. She is currently a Doctor of Internal Medicine, having studied and done residencies in many parts of the world, including the US, Angola and London. In addition to her consultations, Minnie has also been working with the younger generations in projects designed to empower young people’s minds.  She finds that understanding the brain and training the mind are the best strategy to prevent mental illnesses.

Monika Lewicka

Tourism industry leader, impact and heart-driven initiator, connector, vulnerability advocate, seasoned solo traveller, and public speaker. Brand Ambassador and Head of Partnerships at the Transformational Travel Council, passionate about building stewardship and belonging through tourism seen not as a product or a transaction, but as an engaging process and an intentional practice.

Paulo Fontes

Director of communication and campaigns at Amnesty International in Portugal, Paulo Fontes was previously a researcher at the University of Porto, teacher and team manager in communication and marketing.

He has worked and conducted research in several contexts of social and community marketing, non-governmental organizations, museums and science centres, having published several articles and spoken at national and international conferences in this area.

Paulo has a PhD in communication and marketing, with a specialization in alternative public engagement strategies for non-commercial contexts.

Pedro Almeida

Pedro graduated in Electrical Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering in Porto, and then did an MBA at INSEAD. He worked in London as an analyst for a consulting firm in Fast Moving Consumer Goods and then at Bain in Madrid as a Strategy Consultant. He was the Director of Strategic Marketing in a multinational industrial group, in the United States and Portugal, where he has worked in the financial and business development areas. In addition to teaching during college, Pedro volunteered in Angola where he taught English in the most vulnerable communities of Benguela. This transformative experience was the basis for launching Teach For Portugal, because Pedro does not accept the current reality where so many children, depending on the place they are born, have so little opportunities to develop their full potential.

Pedro Vicente

Pedro C. Vicente is a Full Professor of Economics at Nova School of Business and Economics (Nova SBE), where he is also the founding scientific director of the knowledge centre NOVAFRICA. He specializes in development economics and Africa, with a focus on political economy issues. Previously to Nova SBE, Pedro Vicente was a professor and researcher at the University of Oxford and Trinity College Dublin. He was also a visiting professor at the University of Notre Dame and a consultant to the World Bank. Pedro Vicente has published in leading Economics journals such as the American Economic Review, the Review of Economics and Statistics, the Economic Journal, and the Journal of Development Economics. His research has entailed substantial fieldwork efforts in African countries including Mozambique, Nigeria, Guinea-Bissau, Angola, Cape Verde, and São Tomé and Príncipe, as well as funding by national and international agencies such as DFID, USAID, 3IE, IZA, and FCT. Pedro Vicente has a PhD in economics from the University of Chicago.

Rita Wengorovius

Creator and actress, master in applied creativity and artistic director of Teatro Umano, she believes in re-enchanting the world through participating arts, as a place of humanity. Through the disciplinary intersection of applied creativity, social theater and community art practices, she developed the methodology of Umano Theater and applies it to different audiences and contexts. She defends the love, plants the hope, and when she grows up, she wants to be a poet.

Rodrigo Guedes de Carvalho

Rodrigo Guedes de Carvalho was born in 1963, in Porto. He was awarded the Special Jury Prize at the FIGRA International Festival, in France, for a major report on hospital emergencies (1997). He debuted in fiction with the novel “Daqui a Nada” (1992), winner of the UN Young Talent Award. This was followed by “A Casa Quieta” (2005), “Mulher em Branco” (2006), “Canário” (2007), “O Pianista de Hotel” (2017) – SPA Authors Award for Best Narrative Fiction Book 2018 -, “Jogos de Raiva” (2018) and “Margarida Espantada” (2020). Praised by critics, he has been considered one of the most important voices in new Portuguese literature. He is also the author of the film scripts for “Coisa Ruim” (2006) and “Entre os Dedos” (2009), and the play “Os Pés no Arame” (premiered in 2002, with a new staging in 2016). “Cuidado com o Cão” is his most recent novel.

Rosa Pires

Life enthusiast with a twist of lightness and humor, Rosa is a mindfulness, compassion and trauma-based psychologist. Working out of the box, shifting paradigms, using anchors such as emotional intelligence, neuroscience and a bit of unknown tools, she brings fresh heart-minded perspectives and reminds companies of how to function and flourish like humans again. Also, she uses her own Psycho – Alchemic style when working in individual sessions with the bravest hearts.

Salvador Mendes de Almeida

At the age of 16, an accident left Salvador quadriplegic, but he never gave up.

In 2003, he founded Associação Salvador, through which he fights daily to integrate and improve the quality of life of people with physical disabilities, boosting their talents and creating equal opportunities in society.

Every year Associação Salvador support hundreds of people through direct aid, promoting integration in the labor market; stimulating the practice of adapted sports; sharing knowledge; promoting awareness actions; and many other activities.

Susana Peralta

With Ph.D. in Economics from the Université catholique de Louvain, she is a specialist in Public Economics andPolitical Economy, and served as the academic director of the MSc in Economics and the PhD in Economics at Nova SBE.

She is regularop-ed contributor to the Portuguese newspaper Publico, and regularly appears at Portuguese National Television, RTP.

Ay Young

AY is a producer, singer, songwriter, entertainer, and entrepreneur. He powers his concerts (“The Battery Tour”) using renewable energy. He was recently named a UN Youth Leader for SDGs and performed at President Biden’s inauguration. AY is currently working on a Global Goals album, labeled “Project 17” in collaboration with earth’s biggest artists to create one song for each of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
