“10 years” campaign: Get to know Bunker Roy

The “10 years” campaign would like to introduce the Estoril Conferences public to Sanjit “Bunker” Roy, the founder of Barefoot College International which helps rural communities to become self-sufficient.

Wanting to connect to the reality of his country (India), and after coming from a privileged background, Bunker Roy was overwhelmed by the lack of resources that people in rural areas were facing. In 1972, he founded the Barefoot College in the village of Tilonia in Rajasthan, India, to provide practical teachings to rural communities, helping them with their everyday challenges and becoming increasingly self-sufficient.

In 2013 Bunker Roy spoke at the Estoril Conferences about his life‘s work, how people are undervaluing certain groups in society in their capacity of learning and teaching, and what can western societies learn from the Barefoot method.
