Pedro Passos Coelho became involved in politics at an early age and for five years was a member of the National Council of Social Democratic Youth.
In 1991 he held the positions of Deputy Leader and Spokesman for the Social Democratic Party (PSD) in the Assembly of the Republic, the Portuguese Parliament.
He served as a Councillor on Amadora City Council between 1997 and 2001, when he founded the «Movimento Pensar Portugal» (Think Portugal Movement).
For the past decade he has held senior management positions in several companies in the energy and environment fields, in conjunction with lecturing and serving as Chairman of the Vila Real Municipal Assembly.
In 2008 he founded the Strategic Reflection Platform «Construir ideias» for analysis and discussion of the main topics on the national political agenda.
In 2010 he was elected Leader of the Social Democratic Party.
Pedro Passos Coelho took office as Prime Minister of Portugal's 19th Constitutional Government on 21st June 2011 following parliamentary elections on 5th June the same year.
In 2013 he was a speaker at the Opening ceremony of the Estorl Conferences (April, 30th).
