Jean-Marie Guéhenno is Director of the Center for International Conflict Resolution and Professor of Professional Practice in International and Public Affairs at the Saltzman Institute of the Columbia University. He was the Deputy Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations at the United Nations from 2000 to 2008 and has a vast experience in the field of diplomacy, defence and international relations. Before joining the United Nations, Guéhenno spent part of his career in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in France, and in the private sector. He is Chairman of the board of the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue and a member of the board of the International Crisis Group. He is also a member of the European Council on Foreign Relations and a non-resident senior fellow at the Brookings Institution. Guéhenno has published articles in many publications and is the author of The End of the Nation State.
