Margarida Marques is Secretary of State for European Affairs on the Portuguese XXI Constitutional Government. She has a Master’s degree in Science Education - Education and Development, from the Faculty of Science and Technology, Nova University of Lisbon and a degree in mathematics and statistics from the Faculty of Science – University of Lisbon.
Margarida Marques has been elected Member of the National Parliament twice and has served as the European Commission official, holding positions in the Directorate General for Education and Culture (DG EAC) and the Directorate General for Communication (DG COMM) holding the post of Head of the European Commission’s Representation in Portugal.
She has also worked on the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Transports and has been a visiting professor at the Autónoma University and the Faculty of Science and Technology of the Nova University of Lisbon. She was the founder of the Youth Socialists and its secretary-general between 1981 and 1984.
