Prime Minister of Portugal

Pedro Passos Coelho was born in Coimbra in 1964.
He holds a degree in Economics from the Lusíada University, Lisbon.
Pedro Passos Coelho became involved in politics at an early age and for five years was a member of the National Council of Social Democratic Youth. In 1991 he held the positions of Deputy Leader and Spokesman for the Social Democratic Party (PSD) in the Assembly of the Republic, the Portuguese Parliament. In 2010 he was elected Leader of the Social Democratic Party.
Pedro Passos Coelho took office as Prime Minister of Portugal's 19th Constitutional Government on 21st June 2011 following parliamentary elections on 5th June the same year.
