European Diplomat | Ambassador of the EU to the United States of America 2010-2014

João Vale de Almeida (born 1957, in Lisbon) is a senior European Union diplomat who recently concluded his term as the first EU Ambassador to the United States of America (2004/2010). Formerly, he served i.a. as Director General for External Relations at the European Commission, Chief of Staff and main advisor to the President of the EC (José Manuel Barroso) and as the EU "Sherpa" for the G8 and G20 Summits.
