UNESCO Special Envoy on Literacy for Development

Having being committed to literacy for years, and the receiver of 2010’s edition of the Majoor Bosshardt Prize for her struggle against illiteracy, Princess Laurentien of the Netherlands currently chairs the High Level Expert Group on Literacy since its launch by the European Commission, on February 2011. She was appointed UNESCO Special Envoy on Literacy for Development on March 2009, having also being the patron of the UNESCO Amsterdam World Book Capital. Princess Laurentien is also the President of the European Cultural Foundation, the Dutch Reading and Writing Foundation, created by the Princess herself in 2004, and Vice-President of Fauna and Flora International.
